Deriving her talent from her father, she was been on the stage as a singer since her earliest years. She is an alumnus of the National Music School \u201cDobrin Petkov\u201d in Plovdiv. In 1980 she graduated the Music and Dance Academy with two subjects: \u201cFolklore instruments and folklore singing\u201d and \u201cMusical pedagogy\u201d. She studied folklore singing in Asen Diamandiev\u2019s class. As a singer she has number of records in the National Radio and Television, a solo CD, as well as participation in other CD\u2019s of the series \u201cMasters of the Bulgarian Folklore\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\nFrom her numerous participations in festivals the following could be pointed out as ones with special significance: France, Italy, Switzerland, Cuba, Belgium and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\nToday she is an Associate Professor in \u201cFolklore Singing and Conducting of Folklore Choir\u201d in the \u201cAcademy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts\u201d Plovdiv. Annually she is a supervisor or a reviewer of the Ph.D students in the academy. The total of 21 classes of traditional folklore singers and 9 classes of folklore choir conductors have graduated under Svetla Stanilova\u2019s guidance. Among her alumni are famous singers, vocal pedagogues and conductors.<\/p>\n<p>\nSvetla Stanilova has great achievements in teaching folklore singing and conducting to students from the USA, Australia, France, Sweden, Finland, Serbia, Slovenia and Greece.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe has worked as a vocal pedagogue and conductor of the Academic Folklore Choir for 15 years and between 1996 and 2000 she was a conductor of the choir at the National Folklore Ensemble \u201cTrakiya\u201d. Since 2000 up to the present she has been working as a conductor of the chamber folklore formation \u201cPhillipopoly\u201d. This formation consists of students and laureates of national competitions and international festivals (Belgium, Germany, and Croatia). The formation has also publishes a CD with 14 chorus songs and has participated in TV shows.<\/p>\n<p>\nDuring the period 2008-2011 Assoc. Prof Svetla Stanilova is head of the \u201cMusic Folklore\u201d department and from 2012 she is Dean, Faculty of \u201cMusic Folklore and Choreography\u201d. Her professional activities have gained high public recognition: she is member of the \u201cUnion of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers\u201d, part of the \u201cMusicologists\u201d department in the \u201cUnion of the Bulgarian Composers\u201d, member of the \u201cUnion of the Scientists in Bulgaria\u201d. Svetla often participates as a jury member in competitions for traditional folklore arts.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe is honored with the following awards: \u201cGolden Medal for conducting\u201d (1984), a diploma and golden medal for significant achievements in the field of the vocal pedagogy (2005), \u201cPlovdiv\u2019s Badge of Honor\u201d (2010), \u201cGolden Lyra\u201d from the \u201cUnion of the Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers\u201d (2010), diploma for the development of the \u201cAcademic Folklore Choir\u201d, honorary diploma from \u201cBulgarian National Radio\u201d for high achievements in the fields of vocal pedagogy and many others.<\/p>\n<p>\nSvetla Stanilova\u2019s research activities are focused on the problems of the Bulgarian folklore singing (chorus and solo). In 2004 she defended a dissertation on the subject of \u201cThe vocal performance accomplishment of the folklore singer \u2013 formation and development\u201d and she got a degree \u201cDoctor of musicology and musical art\u201d. She also participates as a vocal pedagogue in Workshops for Traditional Bulgaria Folklore Music across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe has published five books \u201cLife and Songs\u201d, \u201cFor the traditional folklore singing performance\u201d, \u201cClear Sunrise\u201d, \u201cIndispensable spring\u201d, \u201cMethodology for the Folklore Singing Education\u201d.
