Nuno Inácio (Lisbon, Portugal)

Nuno Inácio is, since 2005, 1st flute of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. He finished his degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML) with the highest classification and was a pupil of Trevor Wye at his studio in England between 1999 and 2001.

He has attended numerous masterclasses in Portugal and abroad with the greatest flutists of our time, and William Bennett, Trevor Wye and Vicens Prats were the teachers who most influenced his artistic training.

After post-graduation in England, he obtained a Master’s degree in Musical Arts at the ESML/UNL, and is currently studying for his Doctorate in Musical Arts.

Nuno Inácio has performed solo with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Orquestra da ESML, Orquestra da Escola Profissional de Espinho. Between 1995 and 2003 he was the 1st flautist of the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras. From 1996 to 2005 he joined the Gulbenkian Orchestra as a guest musician and regularly plays as 1st Soloist.

He performs regularly in duo with the pianist Paulo Pacheco and the harpist Carolina Coimbra. He collaborates with the Moscow Piano Quartet and Ensemble D’Arcos.

He has made numerous recordings for RTP and RDP-Antena 2 since 1999. He has recorded several times with the Sinfonietta de Lisboa and with the pianist Bernardo Sassetti. He was the protagonist in two documentaries of RTP2: “Sons of Music” and “Bravo”.

Besides performances all over the country, in the most important National Festivals, he has performed in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, England, Denmark, in various recital formats. He integrated the panel of soloists in the 8th International Flute Convention of the British Flute Society (Manchester), in the International Convention of flutists of Spain (2015 and 2020) and in the I and II International Convention of AFLAUP, in Portugal, as concertmaster and masterclass supervisor.

In 2019, in collaboration with Ricardo Alves, he published an article in the British Pan Magazine, on dyslexia in flute teaching.

Among the awards he has obtained are: 1st Prize at the International Flute Competition “L’U.F.A.M.”, in France; 1st Prize at the RDP “Prémios Jovens Músicos” and Maestro Silva Pereira Prize; Semi-finalist at the “Carl Nielsen” Competition, in Denmark; 1st Prize at the Stylistic Improvisation Competition , at the International Flute Convention, in England. He was the dedicatee of works conceived by composers Eduardo Patriarca, Fernando Lobo and Sérgio Azevedo.

Nuno Inácio is described as being “?a young flutist with a wide and colourful sonority, excellent technical control and interesting musicality” -in Jornal Público.

He was part of the jury in several flute, composition and chamber music competitions.

He has conducted masterclasses at Escola Superior de Música e Dança de Cologne (Germany), Escola Superior de Música da Catalunha (ESMUC, Barcelona) at the International Convention of Flautists of Spain, Escola Superior de Música de Cologne, “Cursos de Aperfeiçoamento Musical de Vila do Conde” (2010-2016), at ESMAE, at ARTAVE, Escola Profissional de Mirandela, Escola Profissional da Covilhã, Escola Profissional de Espinho, Conservatório de Música do Porto, Academia de Paredes, Academia de Águeda, Academia de Sta. Maria da Feira, Minde Conservatory, Montalvo Music School and Sintra – Opera Studio.

Since 1999 he has been a teacher at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and since 2004 at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra.
